From 1935 he was head of King's College London Department of Journalism.                                                                               Broadcast to Latin America 1942-1948. Col William F. Cody/Buffalo Bill (1846-1917)                              A legendary showman whose Wild West show was inaugurated in Omaha in 1883 with real cowboys and Indians.                             It played to large audiences in America and Europe for 30 years and was a feature attraction at Queen Victoria's Golden Jubilee in 1887.   In the first week of October 1904, the travelling show stopped on the Easter Horse Showground, Manchester Road, Bolton.

Charles Clement Coe (1830-1921)

English Unitarian minister and writer.

Born1830 in King's Lynn

His was minister at Bank Street Unitarian Chapel n Bolton, Lancashire, from 1874 to 1895, when he moved to Bournemouth.

It was while at Bolton that Coe wrote a large volume, Nature Versus Natural Selection: An Essay on Organic Evolution (1895). He defended evolution but rejected natural selection. The biologist J. Arthur Thomson gave the book a positive review, commenting that it is a very interesting critique of natural selection written with much skill.

Jim Crawford (1948-2002)                                                          Motor racer                                                                               Born  13 Feb 1948 Dunfermline, Fifeshire, Scotland.                       Died 6 Aug 2002 Tierra Verde, Florida, USA aged 54.                   Although Scottish born, he grew up and resided for many years in Bolton, Lancashire.                                                             Grands Prix: 2 (1975)/F2 starts: 14 (1975-1981) / Indy 500s: 8 (1984-1995).                                                            Unfortunately a massive accident in turn one for qualifying for Indianapolis in 1987 not only forever derailed his full-time career and left him with permanent foot injuries, but it led to his death fifteen years later; he contracted hepatitis as a result of a contaminated skin draft after the crash and the hepatitis, mixed in with other issues led to his liver failure and death in 2002.

Subsidised his activities by playing a violin (he made himself) for money.                                                                                    Spectacularly unlucky in his business and financial dealings, he died in relative poverty.

Son of John Crompton who founded Farnworth Paper Mills at Moses Gate in 1790's.                  Invented the continuous drying process for paper when he was only 26 and completely revolutionised the paper making industry.           First to utilise cotton waste in paper manufacture and supplied paper for the London and provincial press from Farnworth Paper Mills. Later became proprietor of the Morning Post.
