2010 (23 Nov) Shanta Gaury Pathak (neé Pandit) (1927 – 2010), British businesswoman and the co-founder (with her husband Laxmishanker Pathak) of the Patak's brand of Indian-style curry pastes, sauces and spices, died of heart failure at the Royal Bolton Hospital, Farnworth, Bolton. She was survived by her six children.

2010 (21 Dec) Hubert "Bertie" Lewis (1920 – 2010), peace campaigner, died following a hip replacement operation in the Royal Bolton Hospital. (>1 Aug 2015)

2010 (Dec) The government's new crime map has identified Great Moor Street in Bolton as Greater Manchester's most crime-ridden road. There were a total of 124 crimes reported on the road during December 2010, which put the street into the top ten worst streets for crime in England and Wales.

2010 Property developer Mubarak Sardar bought the former Church Hotel at 174 Crook Street.

2010-2011 Johan Elmander finally found his goalscoring form in the 2010–11 season, scoring six goals in the opening 13 games, all away from the Reebok Stadium. His first home goals of the season came against Newcastle United, giving him a joint lead as top scorer in the Premier League. However, his goalscoring form dipped and he scored just three goals between December and a goal on 12 March against Birmingham City in an FA Cup Sixth round tie. This brought his goal tally for all competitions to eleven for the season.

2011 (Apr) Ian Workman, who built up the IGW Group in Bolton and Blackburn over nearly 30 years, stabbed his wife Sue through the heart at their luxury home in Edgworth. He is currently serving a life sentence.

2011 (20 May) Bolton manager Owen Coyle said in an interview that he expected Elmander to join Galatasaray, and Johan Elmander confirmed later in the month that he would be leaving the club.

2012 (18 May) It was announced that Ricardo Gardner had left the Bolton in line with the expiration of his contract. At the time, Gardner was the second longest serving foreign player in Premier League history after serving fourteen years at Bolton, only beaten by his former Bolton teammate Jussi Jääskeläinen.

2012 (4 Jun) The body of 31 year old Kelly Davies (c.1981-2012) was found at her home in Queen Street, Farnworth. She had died from stab wounds.

2012 (5 Jun) Chris Thompson (1960-2012) was found dead at his flat in Anderson Gardens, Tipton. An inquest into his death six months later failed to identify a specific cause of death, but the pathologist had discovered cirrhosis of the liver and due to the decomposed state of his body he may have died several weeks before his body was discovered. His sister, Maureen Bradshaw, told the coroner that he had struggled with depression in later life and was a heavy drinker.

2012 (9 Oct) After Owen Coyle's sacking, Sammy Lee and Jimmy Phillips were named joint-caretaker managers. However, Phillips took charge of first team affairs, with Lee joining up with Julian Darby to assist him.

2013 (Oct) The specialist Bury engineering firm Riley & Son Ltd was appointed to complete the high-profile restoration project to bring the locomotive The Flying Scotsman, which was built in Doncaster in 1923, back to Britain's tracks.

2014 (29 Oct) A Land Rover ploughed into the side of the Dog and Partridge pub. Craig Durham who owned and ran Clyde’s Gents Stylists in Higher Market Street, Farnworth who had problems tried to commit suicide by causing this crash. He caused substantial structural damage and a number of people were lucky not to be killed. His parents said that he had not intended any harm to anyone else. The pub has never reopened and is likely to be demolished. It sadly put the Licensee out of work and deprived a number of local bands of their place to play. Mr Durham was found hanged in January 2015 possibly because his previous problems were exacerbated by a fear of going to prison.

2014 The Cattle Market on Orlando Street was demolished.

2014 Cllr Martin Donaghy, a close friend and former colleague, made Mrs Gay Wharton one of his mayoresses during his time as Mayor of Bolton in 2014.

2015 (3 Jan) Zac Clough made his debut for the Bolton first team aged 19 when he started and scored the winning goal in a 1–0 home win against local rivals Wigan Athletic in the FA Cup 3rd round. After the match Bolton manager Neil Lennon described Clough as a special player. Two days later he was rewarded with a contract extension until 2017.

2015 (10 Jan) In a repeat of last year's BDO world championship final Lisa Ashton beat Deta Hedman in the first round. She defended her title by winning the final 3-1 over Fallon Sherrock and became the tournament's oldest winner with 44 years of age. Also, in the final, Fallon Sherrock set a competition record by throwing six 180s in a match and 13 180s in the tournament.

2015 (26 Jan) Adam Le Fondre (born 1986) joined Bolton Wanderers on loan from Cardiff City for the remainder of the 2014–15 Championship season. He finished the season as Bolton's highest scorer with eight goals.

2015 (31 Jan) Zac Clough scored two goals on his senior league debut against Wolverhampton Wanderers in a 2–2 draw.

2015 (Jan) Craig Durham, who owned and ran Clyde’s Gents Stylists in Higher Market Street, Farnworth, was found hanged.

2015 (28 Feb) Zac Clough scored a 6th goal in 9 games in a match against Brighton to make him Bolton's leading scorer for the 2014–15 season. However, in a league match, at home to Reading, he was one of three Bolton players to go off injured in the first half. His injury, a dislocated shoulder, prevented him playing for the remainder of the season.

2015 (May) Major structural decay caused by severe storm damage resulted in the closure of Radcliffe Swimming Pool in May 2015.

2015 (8 Jun) Gary Madine signed a two-year deal with Bolton Wanderers.

2015 (1 Aug) A flagstone laid as a lasting tribute to peace campaigner Hubert "Bertie" Lewis (1920 – 2010), was unveiled by the mayor of Bolton on 1 August 2015. At the ceremony Lewis was described as "a true internationalist who made his home in our town". The plaque reads "Bertie Lewis - Fighter for Peace and Social Justice".

2015 (Sep) The first week in September 2015 could have been one of the blackest in the history of Bolton’s pubs. The week began with the announcement that the Dog and Partridge would not be re-opening, it ended with the closure of the Daisy Hill Hotel, it was announced that the Rocket would be closing for conversion into a convenience store, and somewhere in the midst of all that the closure of the Founders Arms on St George’s Street had been sold and would be closing.

2015 Zac Clough won the penalty that gave Icelandic striker Eiður Guðjohnsen the opportunity to score the opening goal in a 1–2 loss at home to Liverpool in an FA Cup fourth round replay, after the match Fabrice Muamba described him as the best player on the pitch.

2015 Bolton skatepark was designed and built by Freestyle, opening in 2015. It is an all concrete course that is set up in one long continuous flowing loop with both street and transition elements.

2016-2017 Bolton ended the season with a 3–0 win against Peterborough United which was enough to seal promotion back to the Championship at the first attempt as runners up. Bolton finished on 86 points, four points ahead of Scunthorpe United in third. Promotion was achieved in spite of the club being under a transfer embargo imposed by the EFL, with Bolton limited to free transfers and short-term loan deals, whilst remaining under a pre-determined wage cap.

2017 Prestons of Bolton officially closed its doors for the last time in early 2017.

2017-2018 Phil Parkinson's newly promoted Bolton side struggled at the beginning of the 2017–18 season, only earning their first win of the season against Sheffield Wednesday in mid-October, as the club languished at the foot of the Championship table with just five points from 12 games, six points adrift of safety. Parkinson's side would subsequently embark on a six-game unbeaten run following the win, however the club remained inside the relegation zone at its conclusion, having drawn five of the six games. Such was the poor start to the season, it took Parkinson's reinvigorated Bolton side until early December to emerge from the relegation zone, after beating Barnsley 3–1 at home. Bolton earned their first away victory of the season on 30 December 2017, producing a shock 1–0 win at high-flying Sheffield United. Parkinson's Bolton side won back-to-back league matches for the first time since winning promotion on 1 January 2018, by defeating struggling Hull City 1–0. The result saw Bolton emerge from the relegation zone on New Year's Day. Bolton's improved results coincided with Gary Madine hitting form, with the striker scoring the only goals in both victories to bring his tally for the season up to nine goals.
